The GADS is a norm-referenced assessment used to evaluate individuals whose behavior suggests that they may have Asperger’s Disorder. It effectively discriminates people with Asperger’s from those with autism or other problems.
The scale includes 32 items describing specific, observable, measurable behaviors. These items are divided into four subscales: Social Interaction, Restricted Patterns of Behavior, CognitivePatterns, and Pragmatic Skills. An eight-item Parent Interview is also provided to help evaluate developmental delays.
In addition to diagnosis, the GADS can be used to monitor the effectiveness of intervention, identify objectives for IEPs, and assess behavior for research purposes.
