On-Demand Webinar: Autism Today: Applying Diagnostic Criteria to Diverse Populations
Description of On-Demand Webinar
Recently the diagnostic criteria for autism spectrum disorder (autism) was revised (in 2013 and 2022) to include two core domains—social interaction and communication, and restricted and repetitive behaviors and interests—as well as clinical specifiers and severity levels. This presentation will provide an overview of the current diagnostic criteria for autism, including examples of behavioral characteristics that fall under each criterion. An overview of the medical vs. social models of autism will be discussed. In addition, this session will present an overview of research topics related to autism within diverse populations (e.g., females and gender diverse individuals).
Learning Objectives
At the end of this on-demand webinar, the learner will be able to:
- Identify specific behaviors that fall under each diagnostic criterion;
- List three areas of research that emphasize how autism criteria may differ among individuals from diverse backgrounds; and
- Describe how autism can be viewed from both the medical and social models of disability.
