Description of Webinar

The assessment and management of ADHD has evolved significantly in recent years. In this webinar, educators and healthcare professionals will learn to assess for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) by considering key differential and comorbid diagnoses. Over the course of 3 hours, presenters will describe the evolution of ADHD both as a historical diagnostic entity and over the lifespan of the individual, focusing on three crucial aspects: the developmental stages of executive functioning, ADHD assessment, and best practices for managing the condition.

Presenter Bio

J. Thomas Megerian, MD, PhD, FAAP is a board-certified pediatrician and child neurologist specializing in autism spectrum and other neurodevelopmental disorders. He is currently chief of the division of Neurodevelopmental Medicine at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) and associate professor (volunteer faculty) at the University of California, Irvine. Together with many colleagues, he assisted in opening the new Thompson Autism and Neurodevelopmental Center at CHOC, where he serves as the clinical director.

Jina Jang, PhD, BCBA is a neurodevelopmental pediatric psychologist at the Thompson Autism and Neurodevelopmental Center at CHOC. She received her undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles and her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Louisiana State University. She completed her predoctoral internship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute/Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for Autism and Related Disorders.

Executive function (EF) skills provide essential support for learning, development, and overall daily performance. This presentation explores the critical components of EF—such as planning, prioritization, time management, organization, cognitive flexibility, sustained attention, and self-regulation—and their impact on a student’s academic and behavioral success in the educational setting. Participants will learn how students develop EF skills over time and how each skill affects learning. Strengthening EF can enhance a student’s decision-making abilities, emotional management, academic productivity, and more. Participants will leave with practical assessment tools to target intervention and actionable strategies to improve EF skills in students served in K–12 educational settings.

Jennifer Baker Headshot

Jennifer Baker, PhD, NCSP, LSSP, BCBA, LBA Jennifer M. Baker has a PhD in Educational Psychology. She is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP), Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP), Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), and Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA). Dr. Baker has experience working with students and training staff in both the school and clinical settings. She has served in a variety of roles including child and adolescent case worker, behavior specialist, school psychologist, and director, and currently serves as an executive director of special education in a large urban public school district in Austin, Texas. Dr. Baker is passionate about bridging the gap between research and implementable practice in the K–12 educational system, thus continuing to work in a school district while remaining connected to academia by adjunct teaching at the university level. She has presented her research findings and performed training sessions at both the national and state level, helping advance the field of school psychology and behavior analysis. Dr. Baker has won many awards and accolades, including but not limited to the Pearson Scholar Award, Top Research Presentation in Division 16 at the 2018 American Psychological Association (APA) Conference, and Outstanding School Psychologist by the Texas Association of School Psychologists (TASP). Dr. Baker brings a wealth of knowledge and practical resources to educators and school-based providers. On the WPS ProLearn platform, Dr. Baker is featured in the following webinars: Behavior Playbook for School Psychologists (a three-part series) and Executive Functioning: Enhancing Student Success.

Dr. Sterling then served on the clinical faculty in the UCLA Department of Psychiatry and as a staff psychologist at the UCLA Child and Adult Neurodevelopmental Clinic. She became an interim assistant professor and director of the Autism Center at Claremont McKenna College, followed by three years as a tenure-track assistant professor in the Department of Psychology at California State University Long Beach. There, she directed a research laboratory investigating depression, anxiety, and quality of life among autistic college students.

Dr. Sterling left academia in 2018 to serve the autistic community more directly through clinical work, and founded The Sterling Institute for Autism in 2021. She has extensive experience conducting comprehensive diagnostic evaluations and providing therapy for autistic individuals.

In addition to her published peer-reviewed articles, Dr. Sterling has co-authored a 10-week group intervention to support autistic adults in developing dating and relationship skills and published a book on social skills for autistic teens. She speaks on topics such as neurodiversity, gender and sexuality among autistic people, autism in the workplace, comorbid psychiatric conditions in autistic teens and adults, the transition from adolescence to adulthood, and “twice exceptional” neurodivergent students.

Agenda

The on-demand courses are designed to be self-paced. You can start and stop as needed. You must watch the videos in their entirety before taking the CE test.  

Registration and Confirmation

Customers will purchase their course on the WPS website by adding selected item(s) to their cart and completing their transaction with a credit card. Customers who wish to pay with a purchase order will need to contact a representative at 844-378-4918. Once payment is rendered, customers will receive a sales order confirmation email, followed by an email that contains the License Key link. Customers will click on the link to register on the WPS website or sign in if they have already registered. There, customers will be able to access course(s). Once registered, customers will receive a registration confirmation email.   

Refund/Cancellation Policy and Late Registration/Transfer Fees

The on-demand courses available through the WPS Professional Learning Center (WPS ProLearn™) cannot be returned after they have been accessed and cannot be transferred.  

Webinar Completion Requirements

To obtain your Certificate of Completion for on-demand CE courses, you must first watch the video. Then, answer the questions contained in the post-test on the WPS Professional Learning Center (WPS ProLearn™) and submit the post-test for scoring. A post-course evaluation survey will also be provided for you to submit feedback to WPS. 

 In order for a Certificate to be issued, you must pass the post-test with a score of 75% or higher. If you do not pass on your first attempt, you will be allowed two opportunities to retake the post-test. If you do not pass after a total of three attempts, you will need to repurchase access to the materials. We recommend that you make a copy of your post-test answers for your records before submitting them to WPS for scoring. All Certificates of Completion will be provided electronically in the WPS ProLearn system. No partial credit will be awarded.
