(SPELT-3) Structured Photographic Expressive Language Test

The SPELT-3 (Structured Photographic Expressive Language Test–Third Edition) is a comprehensive assessment tool designed for evaluating morphosyntax skills in children aged 4 years, 0 months to 9 years and 11 months. This third edition represents an updated and widely accepted instrument for measuring children's morphosyntactic development. 

Key Features: 

• Measures a child's ability to generate specific morphologic and syntactic structures. 
• Elicits responses through structured visual and auditory stimuli. 
• Each test item is accompanied by a full-color photograph depicting everyday situations or activities. 

Assessment Areas:

The SPELT-3 assesses a wide range of morphological and syntactical structures, including: 

• Morphology: Preposition, plural, possessive noun and pronoun, reflexive pronoun, subject pronoun, direct/indirect object, present possessive noun and pronoun, reflexive pronoun, subject pronoun, direct/indirect object, present progressive aspect, regular and irregular past tense, modal auxiliaries, contractible/uncontractible copula, and contractible/uncontractible auxiliary. 
• Syntax: Negative, conjoined sentences, wh- question, interrogative reversal, negative infinitive phrase, propositional complement, relative clause, and front/center embedded clause. 

Manual Contents include: Overview of the SPELT-3 (including test purpose and discussion of relevant literature on children's development of syntax and morphology, test design, and development); administration guidelines; scoring of responses; scoring guide; analysis and interpretation of test results; development and standardization details of the SPELT-3; technical qualities of the SPELT-3. 

Photographic Stimulus Book: Contains a practice item photograph to guide appropriate responses for test items, plus fifty-four 4" x 6" photographs to prompt various targeted morphological and syntactical structures.

• Provides identifying information about the child, examiner, and test site. 
• Offers administration and response recording instructions. 
• Includes a practice item to familiarize the child with the testing process. 
• Contains fifty-three test items assessing a variety of morphological and syntactical structures.
